Preparing Your Vehicle For Inclement Weather

No matter where you live if you’ve got a car, you are going to be driving in inclement weather at some point. From rain to snow to ice to extreme heat, there isn’t a place in North America that doesn’t get some kind of bad weather over the course of a year. In Louisville, KY, we see our share of bad weather, and the pros at Louisville Automotive Shop know exactly what to do to prepare your vehicle for driving in unfavorable conditions. Check out these tips or swing by our shop and we can get you all ready for when Mother Nature decides that today isn’t going to be a nice one.

Check Your Tires

A big part of being road-ready for inclement weather is having decent tires on your vehicle. You should periodically inspect your tires for damage, yes, but making sure the tire treads are in good shape is of equal importance. You can test this by placing a penny between the treads of your tire. If you can see the top of Abraham Lincoln’s head, your treads are too worn and you need at least one replacement tire. Pouring rain and bald tires are not a good combo, so always make sure your tires are in good enough condition to handle anything the road can throw at you.

Check Your Brakes

One of the scariest things about driving is the thought of not being able to stop your vehicle. In the roughest weather, having a working braking system is extremely important. At Louisville Automotive Shop in Louisville, KY, we are happy to perform a routine brake check, where we will inspect every inch of your braking system. If we find any problems, we will discuss any needed repairs with you before we pick up a wrench.
