Four Signs of Suspension Problems

You might not think about your car’s suspension system a lot, but it supports the entire weight of your car and helps to protect the car and the passengers from getting beat up by the road. A failing suspension system makes for an uncomfortable ride and it increases the wear and tear on your car. Here’s what Louisville Automotive Shop wants you to know.

The Ride Is a Lot Bumpier

No car is completely without the experience of bumps and jolts, but your car’s suspension system works to limit those as much as possible. When the suspension system is failing, it’s not able to do that. As a result, you’re going to feel every single bump, jolt, and jostle as much bigger than you’re used to feeling. If the suspension is in really bad shape, the ride can get downright uncomfortable.

The Car Pulls to One Side While Driving

When the suspension is failing, your car is going to have some handling issues. One that can be a surprise is that the car will start to pull to one side. This often starts out as a minor problem that gets a lot worse as the suspension issues get worse. Eventually you may find that you’re really fighting the car just to keep it in your lane.

It’s Much Harder to Steer the Car

It might sound like a similar issue, but you may also experience steering difficulties with suspension problems. What’s happening here is that the steering system, which is also a part of the suspension, may get loose or just far off of what it should be in order for you to control the car. This is something that can quickly become a safety concern, especially if you can’t make the car follow the path you’re trying to steer it toward.

The Car Is Leaning or Low on One Side

Because of how the suspension system functions, one side or even just one corner of the car can start to lean lower than the others. When parts of the car are riding lower, that can make it difficult for you to clear things like speed bumps. It also gets worse over time, which means that there’s more damage.
