Questions You Should Never Ask Your Mechanic

Here at Louisville Automotive Shop in Louisville, KY, we have literally heard it all from our customers. Don’t get us wrong; our customer base is like family to us, and we wouldn’t trade their questions for anything in the world. But just for fun, we thought we’d go through some of the sillier questions we’ve gotten over the years and the reasons why you, as an auto repair customer, should never ask them. And if you are guilty of asking these questions? We don’t hold it against you. Promise.

Can YouTube help?

Yeah, if you’ve come to us with an auto repair issue, you are enlisting the help of a trained team of professional mechanics. So, no, you probably can’t do the repair yourself with YouTube’s help. Even if you could get your hands on the parts and tools required, our team studies for years to be able to work with these complicated systems. Corey from the Corey’s World channel won’t be able to produce a five-minute video explaining how to repair a transmission, nor should you trust him – or yourself – to even attempt these repairs.

Can You Use Parts I Already Have?

The answer to this one is always going to be a flat no. We can’t guarantee some part passed down from your grandpappy will even be compatible with your car, and even if we do manage to make it work, we can’t guarantee it will work for long. When we work on your car, we only use factory parts because that is all we can back up with our warranty. If we used a belt or hose you had in your closet to repair your car, and it quit working or caused more damage a week after the work was completed, you’d be lying to yourself if you don’t admit you’d blame us. No thanks.

Is It Really Necessary?

Any auto repair or service we suggest is absolutely necessary – unless we tell you otherwise. Can your car keep going for another three months with a slightly dirty air filter? Probably – and we will tell you that. Can your car keep running with an exhaust system that is falling apart? You guessed it – nope. So you are free to leave without having us complete the repairs, but know that we aren’t suggesting them for our health and well-being; we only have you and your car’s health in mind.
